Lyndon Hall Stables

The Lyndon Hall Clock was restored many years ago but the difficult access made regular winding difficult (see insert above). Auto-winds have now been fitted to the strike and going mechanisms together with a Pendulum Regulator. The clock now chimes accurately and requires no regular attention. An unusual addition to this installation is that the night strike time control has been adapted to make the bell strike once at 30 minutes past the hour.

Above is the two train birdcage Lyndon Hall clock showing the auto-winders. The clock is dated 1876 and was manufactured by Smiths of Clerkenwell.

Blaston Clock Tower

Blaston Clock Tower is an unusual village landmark. It houses a Smiths of Clerkenwell birdcage clock with going and strike mechanism. In common with many similar locations, regular winding was a problem and the clock had not run for many years. Installation of an Auto-wind on the going has resolved this problem and the clock tower is again a useful landmark in the village.

Kings Norton

The clock was restored in 1975. The three drive weights for this clock were very heavy which made the clock difficult to wind. An auto-wind system was installed in the 1980s but this soon fell into disuse. The Auto-winders now fitted to this clock are the prototypes to the design that we now manufacture and have supplied to a wide variety of locations.

The clock is a birdcage design with going, quarters and strike mechanism. It is dated 1765 and was made by Joseph Ayre of Kettering & St Neots. The strike count wheel has an extra pin for tripping the chime machine once every 12 hours. The chime machine is also fitted with the same design of auto-wind mechanism.

Normanton Park Hotel

This clock is an 18th century birdcage design and was installed in the stable block of Normanton Hall which was demolished nearly 100 years ago. The clock was restored some years ago but regular winding was impracticable due to its location in a busy hotel and it was consequently abandoned. The installation of an auto-winder on the going has made an asset of this unusual feature in the hotel. There are now plans to install auto-wind on the bell strike mechanism together with a Pendulum Regulator.
